The GWO Basic Safety Training Offshore Refresher (Blended) is designed for wind energy professionals who need to renew their offshore safety certification efficiently. By splitting the training into an online e-learning phase and a condensed 2.5-day practical programme, this blended format significantly reduces time away from work compared to a traditional classroom-based refresher.
Before attending the practical sessions, participants complete the theoretical components of all five GWO modules through an online learning environment. This preparation ensures that classroom time can be devoted entirely to practical exercises, scenario-based drills, and skills consolidation. Topics covered include emergency first aid response, safe techniques for working at height on offshore structures, fire prevention and suppression, ergonomic manual handling, and survival procedures in a marine environment.
Upon successful completion, participants receive five separate GWO refresher certificates — one for each module — each valid for two years. The training is delivered in English at the training facility and meets the latest GWO Basic Safety Training Offshore standard.
This is a refresher programme for wind energy professionals who hold valid GWO Basic Safety Training Offshore certificates. The blended format combines online e-learning for the theory with 2.5 days of practical training at the training facility. It covers all five GWO offshore safety modules and results in five refresher certificates upon completion.
This course is designed as the follow-up to the GWO Basic Safety Training Offshore (Blended) programme and is intended for participants who have previously completed it.
You must hold valid GWO Basic Safety Training Offshore certificates covering all five modules: First Aid, Working at Height, Fire Awareness, Manual Handling, and Sea Survival. All certificates must still be active at the start of the refresher training. Expired certificates cannot be renewed through this refresher programme.
Before attending the practical training days, you complete the theoretical modules online at your own pace through an e-learning platform. The online content covers the knowledge foundations for all five GWO modules. Once the e-learning is finished, you attend 2.5 days of practical sessions in Rotterdam where the focus is entirely on hands-on exercises and scenario-based training.
Each of the five GWO refresher certificates is valid for two years from the date of issue. To continue working offshore after expiry, you will need to complete this refresher programme again before your certificates lapse.
The blended format is more time-efficient. By completing the theory online in advance, the practical training can be condensed to 2.5 days instead of the longer duration required for a fully classroom-based refresher. This means less time away from your project or vessel while still meeting all GWO certification requirements.
