This blended training delivers the GWO Fire Awareness standard through a combination of self-paced online e-learning and a practical morning session. Participants learn how fire originates and spreads in wind turbine environments, how to operate fire extinguishers correctly, and how to safely evacuate a nacelle in the event of a fire. The course also covers emergency procedures, disaster plans, smoke detection systems, and techniques for suppressing small fires before they escalate.

The GWO Fire Awareness (Blended) training is designed for wind turbine technicians and other personnel who work in or around wind turbines where fire risk is a critical safety concern. By combining the flexibility of online e-learning with hands-on practical training, this course ensures you are fully prepared to recognise, respond to, and manage fire emergencies in the field.
The e-learning component allows you to complete the theoretical part of the course at your own pace before attending the practical session. During the two-hour morning session in Rotterdam, you will practise using different types of fire extinguishers, follow correct evacuation procedures from a nacelle, and apply emergency protocols based on real-world wind turbine scenarios. Smoke detection systems and disaster planning are also covered to give you a complete picture of fire safety on site.
Upon successful completion, you receive a GWO Fire Awareness certificate that is valid for two years and meets the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training standard. This qualification is widely recognised across the wind energy industry and is a prerequisite for working on many offshore and onshore wind projects.
GWO Fire Awareness (Blended) is a certified wind energy safety course that combines online e-learning with a half-day practical session. It teaches technicians how fire starts and spreads in wind turbine environments, how to use fire extinguishers, how to evacuate a nacelle safely, and how to follow emergency procedures and disaster plans. The course meets the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training standard.
This training is intended for wind turbine technicians, service engineers, and other personnel who access wind turbines as part of their work. It is suitable for those entering the wind energy industry as well as experienced technicians who need to renew an expiring GWO Fire Awareness certificate.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. It is open to anyone who works or intends to work on or around wind turbines.
The blended format consists of two parts. First, you complete the theoretical e-learning modules online at your own pace. Once the e-learning is done, you attend a two-hour practical session in Rotterdam where you apply what you have learned using real fire extinguishers and practise nacelle evacuation procedures in a hands-on setting.
The GWO Fire Awareness certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. To maintain your qualification, you will need to complete a refresher course or retake the training before the certificate expires.
