GWO Manual Handling (Blended) is a certified wind energy training that combines online e-learning with a half-day practical session. It teaches you how to safely lift and move loads, apply injury-prevention techniques, and protect yourself from musculoskeletal risks in a wind turbine environment.
| Timetable | 0.5 days practical (2 hours) + online e-learning |
| Certification | GWO Manual Handling |
| Validation | 2 years |
| Requirements | No specific entry requirements apply. Participants must have a valid WINDA account to register and receive their GWO certification upon completion. |
This blended training covers the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Manual Handling standard. The e-learning component introduces the theoretical foundations of safe load handling, risk awareness, and body mechanics. The practical session puts these principles to work through hands-on exercises and real-world case studies, ensuring participants can confidently apply safe lifting techniques in a wind turbine setting.

The GWO Manual Handling (Blended) training prepares wind energy technicians to handle loads safely and prevent work-related injuries. Manual handling is one of the leading causes of injury in the wind industry, and this course gives you the knowledge and practical skills to significantly reduce that risk in your day-to-day work.
The blended format lets you complete the theoretical content in your own time through an online e-learning module. You then attend a focused two-hour practical session in Rotterdam, where qualified instructors guide you through hands-on lifting exercises, team-handling scenarios, and case studies drawn from real-life wind turbine operations. This approach combines the flexibility of self-paced study with the confidence that comes from practising techniques in a supervised environment.
Upon successful completion, you receive a GWO Manual Handling certificate registered in WINDA, the GWO’s global training database. The certificate is valid for two years and satisfies the manual handling component of the GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) standard, which is required by most offshore and onshore wind operators worldwide.
GWO Manual Handling (Blended) is a certified training that meets the Global Wind Organisation’s Manual Handling standard. It combines online e-learning — covering theory on safe lifting, body mechanics, and risk awareness — with a two-hour in-person practical session in Rotterdam. Participants practise real lifting and load-moving techniques and learn how to prevent musculoskeletal injuries in a wind energy context.
This training is intended for technicians, engineers, and other personnel who work at wind energy sites and are required to handle loads as part of their job. It is relevant for both onshore and offshore wind roles and is typically required before being allowed access to operational wind turbines.
There are no specific prior qualifications or physical pre-assessments required for this course. The only administrative requirement is that you must have a valid WINDA account, as your GWO certificate will be registered in this system upon completion.
The certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. Before it expires, you will need to complete a refresher training to keep your qualification current and maintain access to wind energy work sites.
The blended version replaces part of the classroom theory time with an online e-learning module you complete independently before attending the practical session. This reduces the time spent on-site to approximately two hours while covering the same GWO-mandated competencies. The full classroom version covers both theory and practice in a single on-site session.
