About GWO Basic Safety Training Onshore (Blended)

The GWO Basic Safety Training Onshore (Blended) is designed for professionals entering or already working in the onshore wind energy sector. The course meets the requirements set by the Global Wind Organisation and delivers four separate safety certifications: First Aid, Working at Height, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling.

The blended format splits the training into two phases. Before arriving at the training centre, participants complete the theoretical elements of all four modules through structured online e-learning. This preparation eliminates the need for a dedicated classroom day, reducing the on-site training from four days to three. The practical days in Rotterdam are spent entirely on hands-on exercises, allowing instructors to focus on developing the physical skills and decision-making required in real-world situations.

On successful completion, four GWO certificates are issued — one per module — and registered in your personal WINDA account. Each certificate is valid for two years. The course requires no specific prior qualifications, making it suitable as an entry-level safety foundation for new wind energy professionals as well as experienced technicians seeking renewal.

  • The blended format saves one full day compared to classroom-only delivery: theory is completed online in advance, so all three on-site days are dedicated to practical exercises across the First Aid, Working at Height, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling modules.
  • Upon completion, four individual GWO-certified certificates are issued and registered directly in your WINDA account. Each certificate is valid for two years and recognised across the global wind energy industry.

FAQ

The GWO Basic Safety Training Onshore (Blended) is a safety certification programme for onshore wind energy professionals. It covers four modules — First Aid, Working at Height, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling — and combines online e-learning for the theoretical content with three days of practical training. The course meets the standards of the Global Wind Organisation and results in four separate GWO certificates.

In the classroom version, theory and practice are both delivered on-site over four days. In the blended version, the theoretical content is completed online before the training starts, reducing the on-site component to three practical days. The learning outcomes and the certificates issued are identical in both formats.

No specific entry requirements apply. The course is open to anyone working in or entering the onshore wind energy sector. The only administrative requirement is an active WINDA account, which must be set up before the course begins so that your certificates can be registered upon completion.

WINDA is the Global Wind Organisation’s digital registry for wind energy training records. All GWO certificates are recorded in WINDA and can be shared with employers and clients worldwide. You can create a free personal account at winda.globalwindsafety.org before the start of your training.

All four certificates — GWO First Aid, GWO Working at Height, GWO Fire Awareness, and GWO Manual Handling — are valid for two years from the date of issue. Before they expire, you can attend a GWO Basic Safety Training Refresher to renew all modules and maintain your certification.

You receive four separate GWO certificates upon successful completion: one for each of the First Aid, Working at Height, Fire Awareness, and Manual Handling modules. All four are registered in your WINDA account and are individually recognised across the wind energy industry.
