About GWO Enhanced First Aid

The GWO Enhanced First Aid course is designed for wind energy professionals who need a higher level of medical competence than standard first aid provides. Working at offshore or remote onshore sites means that emergency services can take time to arrive, so technicians must be capable of making critical decisions and providing sustained care until professional help is available.

Over three full days, participants develop a thorough understanding of human anatomy and learn to recognise the signs of both minor and serious medical conditions. The programme covers the use of automated external defibrillators, appropriate pain management techniques, and the safe administration of medication. Structured emergency contact procedures and medical incident management are also central to the course, ensuring that participants can coordinate a response as well as deliver hands-on care.

A significant portion of the training is dedicated to realistic scenario exercises that simulate offshore working conditions. These sessions give participants the confidence to apply their skills in stressful, real-world situations. Upon successful completion, participants receive two GWO-recognised certificates: the GWO Enhanced First Aid and the GWO First Aid, both valid for two years.

  • Covers AED use, life-threatening emergency response, human anatomy, pain management, medication administration, and medical incident coordination — going well beyond the scope of standard first aid.
  • Participants receive both the GWO Enhanced First Aid and GWO First Aid certificates upon completion, each valid for two years and recognised across the global wind energy industry.

FAQ

GWO Enhanced First Aid is a three-day advanced medical training for wind energy professionals. It goes beyond basic first aid to cover life-threatening emergency management, AED operation, pain relief, medication administration, and human anatomy. The course is built around scenario-based exercises that reflect real offshore working conditions.

Participants who successfully complete the training receive two certificates: the GWO Enhanced First Aid and the GWO First Aid. Both are valid for two years and are recognised by employers across the global wind energy sector.

There are no specific entry requirements for this course. It is open to anyone working in or moving into the wind energy industry who wants or needs an advanced first aid qualification.

Both the GWO Enhanced First Aid and the GWO First Aid certificates are valid for two years from the date of issue. A refresher course must be completed before expiry to maintain the qualification.

The standard GWO First Aid training covers essential emergency response skills for offshore wind technicians. GWO Enhanced First Aid goes further, adding topics such as human anatomy, pain management, medication administration, and structured medical incident coordination. Because the Enhanced course includes the full First Aid curriculum, participants receive both certificates upon completion.
