The GWO First Aid (Blended) course is designed for professionals working in the wind energy sector who need a recognised first aid qualification according to the Global Wind Organisation standard. The blended format splits the training into two distinct phases: an online e-learning component covering the theoretical background, and a one-day practical session where you apply that knowledge in a hands-on training environment.
During the e-learning phase, you study topics such as normal body functions, the recognition of injuries and illnesses, and the principles behind first aid decision-making. On the practical day in Rotterdam, you work with first aid equipment, practise AED operation, and train to respond to life-threatening scenarios. Instructors guide you through exercises that simulate real conditions in and around wind turbines, helping you build both competence and confidence.
Upon successful completion, you receive a GWO First Aid certificate valid for two years. The certificate is registered in WINDA, the Global Wind Organisation’s training database, and is widely recognised by wind energy employers and contractors across the industry.
GWO First Aid (Blended) is a first aid training designed for wind energy professionals that combines online e-learning with a one-day practical session. The e-learning covers the theoretical background, while the on-site day focuses on hands-on skills such as AED operation, use of first aid equipment, and responding to life-threatening emergencies. The course meets the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Safety Training standard.
The blended version moves all theoretical content online, so you complete it at a time and place that suits you before attending the practical day. The classroom version covers both theory and practice on-site over a longer period. The blended format is often preferred by participants who want to reduce time away from work while still gaining a fully recognised GWO First Aid certificate.
There are no specific entry requirements for this course. It is open to anyone working in or entering the wind energy industry. You do need a WINDA account to register for the training and to have your GWO certificate issued and recorded in the GWO training database after completion.
The GWO First Aid certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. To maintain your qualification, you will need to complete a GWO First Aid Refresher course before the certificate expires. The refresher is a shorter training that updates your skills and extends the validity for another two years.
WINDA is the Global Wind Organisation’s online training registration system. It is used by GWO-approved training providers to register participants and issue digital certificates. You need a WINDA account before the start of the course so that your GWO First Aid certificate can be recorded in the system and shared with your employer or contractor when required.
