About NOGEPA 2.2A Offshore First Aid Basic

The NOGEPA 2.2A Offshore First Aid Basic training is developed for personnel assigned to Emergency Response Teams on installations operating on the Dutch continental shelf. Companies active in oil and gas exploration and production are required by Dutch legislation to maintain qualified first aid responders on board, and this course provides the core qualification to fulfil that role.

Over four days, participants work through a structured programme that addresses the full range of first aid scenarios likely to arise in an offshore environment. Topics include assessing and stabilising casualties, managing shock and significant bleeding, treating wounds, and responding to drowning or cold water immersion with hypothermia. The course also covers the correct procedures for moving injured or ill persons safely, and how to communicate effectively with medical advisors via radio when professional care is not immediately available on location.

Upon successful completion, participants receive the NOGEPA 2.2A certificate, which is registered in the Centraal Diploma Register (CDR). The certificate is valid for two years. To maintain the qualification after expiry, participants must complete the NOGEPA 2.2B refresher course. No prior medical training is required to enrol, making this the entry-level first aid qualification within the NOGEPA framework.

  • Participants complete a four-day practical programme covering patient assessment, shock and bleeding management, wound treatment, hypothermia and drowning response, safe casualty transport, and radio communication with medical professionals — equipping them to function effectively as part of an offshore Emergency Response Team.
  • Successful participants receive the NOGEPA 2.2A certificate, registered in the Centraal Diploma Register (CDR) and valid for two years. The qualification is renewable via the NOGEPA 2.2B refresher course.

This training is intended for personnel working on the Dutch continental shelf who are assigned to an Emergency Response Team. Under Dutch legislation, companies operating offshore installations are obliged to maintain staff with recognised first aid qualifications on board at all times. The NOGEPA 2.2A certificate fulfils this requirement and is the entry-level qualification within the NOGEPA first aid framework.

There are no formal prerequisites for this training. No prior medical or first aid background is required. Participants must bring a valid form of identification to the course.

The NOGEPA 2.2A certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue. Once the certificate expires, holders must complete the NOGEPA 2.2B refresher course to renew their qualification. It is not necessary to retake the full four-day training if the refresher is completed before expiry.

NOGEPA 2.2A is the initial four-day first aid training that provides the full foundational qualification for offshore Emergency Response Team members. NOGEPA 2.2B is a shorter refresher course designed for those who already hold a valid or recently expired 2.2A certificate. The refresher updates and consolidates existing skills rather than covering all content from scratch.

This training is offered on request and requires a minimum of four participants per group. Please contact QPO to discuss available dates and to schedule a session for your team.
