The GWO Sea Survival Refresher is a mandatory renewal training for offshore wind professionals whose GWO Sea Survival certificate is approaching expiry. Working in the offshore wind industry means regular exposure to maritime environments, where the ability to respond correctly in an emergency can be the difference between a safe outcome and a tragedy. This course ensures that your skills and knowledge remain current and reliable.
During the training, you will revisit the practical and procedural aspects of sea survival, including how to safely board and disembark vessels, how to act during a man-overboard event, and how to carry out an effective evacuation. You will also review the range of life-saving appliances used in the offshore industry, understanding both their capabilities and their limitations so that you can make well-informed decisions under pressure.
A blended learning option is available for those who prefer to complete the theoretical part online before attending the four-hour on-site session. The on-site component focuses on hands-on practice so that you leave fully confident in applying the procedures covered. Upon successful completion, you receive a renewed GWO Sea Survival certificate, valid for two years.
The GWO Sea Survival Refresher is a renewal training for offshore wind professionals who already hold a GWO Sea Survival certificate. It covers sea survival techniques, evacuation and man-overboard procedures, life-saving appliances, and the correct use of PPE and PFPE. Completing this course extends your GWO Sea Survival certification by two years.
Any offshore wind professional whose GWO Sea Survival certificate is due to expire must complete this refresher to maintain a valid certification. It is intended for technicians, supervisors, and other personnel who work in or travel to offshore wind environments on a regular basis.
You must hold a valid GWO Sea Survival certificate to enrol. Since April 2023, you are also required to hold a valid GWO Working at Height certificate. Please ensure both certificates are current before booking your place.
After successfully completing the GWO Sea Survival Refresher, your GWO Sea Survival certificate is valid for two years. We recommend planning your renewal well before the expiry date to avoid any gap in your certification.
Yes. A blended learning option is available that allows you to complete the theoretical part of the course online at your own pace. The on-site component then takes place in the afternoon and focuses on practical exercises. This format is ideal if you want to minimise time away from work without compromising the quality of your training.
The full classroom course runs for one full day and covers both theory and practice on-site. The blended option replaces the morning theory session with an e-learning module that you complete in advance, and the on-site attendance is reduced to a half day. Both options lead to the same GWO Sea Survival certificate.
